I continue to be amazed by the beauty of Colorado and love spending summer weekends exploring new and wonderful camping locations. Our most recent camping trip took us to 11 Mile Canyon, just west of Colorado Springs and it is breathtaking. The drive up the canyon to the campsite (Spillway) alone was gorgeous, the dirt road snaking up the canyon along side the river, which switches from rapids to smooth water perfect for the many fly fishermen enjoying the day. Along the way you cross some wonderful old bridges and drive through a few small tunnels in the mountainside.
The highlight of the location is a fantastic hike up the canyon, rewarded by a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and dam that borders the campsite. The kids had such a great time hiking and climbing over all the cool rocks and we enjoyed the beautiful day with our lovely friend E and her son.
